Question
Hello Christine:
I recently adopted an adult boar named Wilfred(Will) from the pet store. The owner did not want him anymore and so they brought him in so the store could find him a home.  He is a very sweet boy who enjoys cuddles and celery. He never bites except when he thinks your finger is a carrot but that is just nibbling. I have been doing a lot of research on piggies and on all the sites they say that it is highly recommended to get a cagemate for your piggy. I want to do this by all means but I cannot get a female as I do not want to have to neuter him. I have heard that males fight so I am not sure what to do. Is this true that males fight? Do you have any advice?
Thanks!

Answer
Hi Emma,
Yes males do fight because of territorial reasons. I and one guinea pig and I wanted to get him a friend so i got to males and only one male got along with him and they were inseparable and the other male hated both the other males. If you get a female you'll have to neuter him. You may not have to get him a companion if you will make sure you spend quality time with him and he has fresh food, veggies, fruits, clean water daily, toys for guinea pigs like mirrors (guinea pigs like to look at themselves in mirrors, and a clean cage in a busier room of your house so he gets to see what going on in the house.
Hope this helps & message me again if you have any further questions.
Goodluck,
Christine
