My pigs are picky!!!

Question
Welcome back Jules!  Thanks to your advice my two girls, Lala and Addy, are
now happily living together.  You'd think we'd all be a happy family now but
their eating habits are making me crazy.  They get veggies and fruit every
night, but it's getting so there's hardly anything I can get them to eat.  They
refused broccoli and asparagus.  They stopped eating spinach a while ago.
They ate bell peppers a few times and now they won't.  Yesterday they
wouldn't touch cucumber or mustard greens.  I feed them the same lettuce
mix I eat, but now they only eat certain leaves out of it.  We're down to celery
and SOME lettuce.  They still love apples and carrots-- the sugary stuff with
hardly any vitamins!   I buy a mixed food with some dried fruits and seeds in
with the pellets (found out too late that a lot of people don't recommend
that).  They pick out the other stuff and don't eat the pellets.  What is up with
them?  Have I spoiled them and how can I fix it?  Please help!

Answer
Miriam,

I am glad to hear that Lala and Addy are getting along great.

Now for the food issue at hand. This is normal behavior for Guinea Pigs as they are grazing animals so they are use to different types of food. So when they get to much of one type of food they tend to get tired off it. The most difficult part to owning Guinea Pigs is their picky behavior towards food. Try feeding them different foods and change it up each week. Here is a list of some good foods for Guinea Pigs and foods they like and just to give you some ideas on mixing it up a bit with.

Veggies,

Asparagus
Beets
Broccoli
Brussels Sprouts
Cabbage
Baby Carrots
Carrots
Cauliflower
Celery
Chard Greens
Cilantro
Collards
Cucumber
Dandelion Greens (washed off and untreated of course)
Green Beans
Kale
Mustard Greens
Okra
Parsley
Red Peppers
Green Peppers
Pumpkin
Spinach
Squash (summer, all varieties)
Squash (winter, all varieties)
Sweet Potato Leaves
Sweet Potato
Swiss Chard
Tomato
Turnip Greens
Turnip

Fruits,

Apple
Apricots
Banana
Blackberries
Blueberries
Cantaloupe
Cherries
Cranberries
Grapes
Honeydew Melon
Nectarine
Orange
Peach
Pear
Pineapple
Plum
Raisins, Seedless
Raspberries
Strawberries
Tangerine
Watermelon

Just mix it up from week to week and with this list it should be easier for you to mix it up a little. Just remember the list is something for you to use a reference, it doesn't mean you have to buy everything on the list, it is for you to get some ideas from with mixing up your girls' food.

Your not spoiling them any and the fix is easy as can be.

Good Luck to you and I hope this helps.

Take care now,
         Jules
