Mange mites! :(

Question
Hi, I have a 4 month old female guinea. We got her from someone who seemed to take good care of her, but you never know. Recently I've noticed her itching and biting herself. I have seen 2 scabs on her skin (one on her ear-healed- and elbow), though the one one her elbow feels like a bump. when I check her skin its a perfect healthy looking pink. When I scratch or touch her scab she doesn't care. She eats all her hay, pellets, and vegetables everyday. I'm just super worried about her and I really need help with this situation! Could she have mange mites?

Answer
most likely it is mange, don't worry, even the best cared for guinea pigs can contract it, in fact two of mine who live with one of my fosters have, it is perfectly normal. all you need to do is  buy a mange spray, one which you apply to the fur preferably, also have some tea tree cream on hand to sooth any areas that look a little sore. just use as the container says on the back, get a spray for the hutch which also kills off any mange and then you are all sorted. most guinea pig keepers after a little while end up collecting their own medikit.
ps. sorry about the late reply i have been redecorating and accidentally crushed the ethernet cable so havebeen unable to connect these last few days.

best of luck
