Question
My gerbil, which is about 3 years old, is very very sick.  She had a stroke about 4 months ago, and fully recovered except a slight head tilt. 2 days ago, i noticed that she was not using one of her legs, and that her ear was tilted back on the same side as her leg.  She also had a very severe head tilt. I figured se had another stroke, and that she would recover again.  Today, she is using her leg perfectly fine again, but i noticed that she has absolutely no hair on her abdomen and her lower stomach!  She is sleeping all the time, but is eating and drinking when I give her food.  I haven't noticed any diarrhea, but i'm not really sure.  Her abdomen is slightly wet from urine also, so she is not keeping it very clean.  What should I do?  her sister is grooming her abdomen a lot, so i'm wondering if she may be the reason for the hair loss.  Please help me! thank you so much.

Answer
hmmm, It seems that with her losing fur and her fur is slightly wet i would certainly give her some dritail drops for diarrhea to be on the safe side. Generally, having wet fur on their tummy or tail is a sure sign of wettail which is basically diarrhea and her not grooming herself is also a sign that she is sick. Buy some dritail drops or some wettail to treat the infection. Dritail is better to use and we use it at petsmart. Try that and see. Keep me posted and i'm glad you're taking good care of your hamsters :-).
