Do hamsters moult?

Question
Hi Tammy

I have four 4 month old "Robo" hamsters who just love doing everything together but my worry is Hobnob-the smallest of the sisters as she seems to be looking rather rough with her fur.  I have kept an eye on her for the past few days and she is eating well, playing well, drinking and happy in herself.  I wondered if her rough look is her fur moulting or could she have picked up a cat flea from my cats?  The others look smooth and tidy with their fur.

Hope you can help me to help Hobnob!

Thanks  Julie - and Hobnob!

Answer
Hi Julie,

i have a lot of Roborovskis but i have never seen any of them moult.

I have a few which are more long haired than the others so they do look more scruffy than the others, so maybe one of yours is like that?

Hamsters can have fleas but i am not sure if they are same ones as cats, but i am sure that if one of them had fleas then the others wouls too.

I wouldnt worry about it too much but if you are worried you could take her to the vets just to be on the safe side.

Sorry i cant be of much more help.

Please let me know if you need any more info.

Regards,

Tammy
