Many gerbils

Hello I am a fellow expert here!

I have 1 question. Do you have any tips on telling gerbils apart? I have bred many unfortunately they look identical (intentionally I found a black Grey combo I like). I am unable to tell them apart so they do not have names. I know everything about gerbils in terms of what they need unfortunately I cant tell my own gerbils apart! Which is kind of embarrassing  I thought perhaps in your 10 years of gerbil ownership you found some ways to tell gerbils that look the same apart at sight lol

I could of have them tattooed or ear notched but i think of that an a unnecessary mutilation.

Hi Michael,

Well believe it or not it ten years none of my gerbils that i have kept have ever looked the same. I did have some babies once that were all completly black, and that was a nightmare trying to figure out who was who. They both had identical markings, the only way i learnt to tell them apart was from their personality, one was really brave and tame, and the other was a lot more shy and scatty. Have you had a look on their feet to see if one of them has a slightly different marking or colour on them than the other? Sometimes if you look closely you can see something different. Hmmm, are they both the same size too?  Other than that i can't really think of anything else, let me know if you do!!
