Housing Dwarf Mommy and Son

Question
Hello,

I just rescued a mommy/son pair today.  They've been housed together for quite some time (though age is unknown son is considered to be young adult).  After reading through some Q/A's on here I came across an answer stating that a baby female dwarf could be left with the mom.  Not a son?  Would they mate (I definitely don't want that)!  How would I know if they were ready to?

The male (son) is, I guess, a "dwarf Dwarf": meaning he's about the size of a 2-3 week old hammie even though he's an adult.  Really cute and completely normal/active with the exception of his size!  I was told to just keep an eye out for mom attacking him if she ever thought he wasn't up to par.  As I mentioned they've lived together since his birth and so far they've been getting along.

If I need to seperate them because they'll mate (or for other reasons) please let me know!

Thanks so much for your time..

Answer
Hi Maya,

Unfortunately, the pair will need to be separated, even though they get along, because they will mate.  It's just in their nature to do so.  And, since they're both adults, they won't be able to have companions, since it's difficult to introduce two adult hamsters.

Have a great day!

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask :)
