traveling with gerbils

Question
I have a huge problem. I have two gerbils and I must get the home. Home is currently a 12 hour trip by car, bus and train with lay overs between the three modes of transportation. They came to college with me and it took us 10 hours by just car and they were fine but I don't know what if they will make it home or if its even a good idea to bring them home. If they do get to go home there not coming back with me. They are staying there.

Answer
How long are you planning to be gone? If it's a week or less then they'll probably be ok on their own if you give them lots of food (they sell long sticks of food at some places, ask a pet-shop owner if they have any, and if you don't take them put some in the cage), but since you want to take them with you (which I would too), then here's what you have to do:
When your traveling in your car, make sure the temp. is between 70-78 degrees, and the A.C. isn't blown directly on them. Bus and train... I've never had to take my gerbils on either one. Is the train between those two temps? If it is and it's not to stuffy, They'll be okay if the  train trip isn't more than about 2-3 hours. Same with the bus. Check on them as much as you can (except when your driving, you don't want to crash, that would not be good! Lol...)
You said if they do get home they aren't coming back with you, that's  all right as long as you have someone responsible to care for them.
I hope I answered your question. Best wishes to you and your pets, and good luck with college! :) - Jen
