Ferret food recommendations

Amy, I read your recommendation on the Purina cat food and also checked the ingredient content.

Corn Gluten Meal   , Ground Yellow Corn   , Chicken   , Brewers Rice   , Wheat Flour   , Beef Tallow Preserved with Mixed-Tocopherols - Source of Vitamin E   , Egg Product   , Phosphoric Acid   , Calcium Carbonate   , Potassium Chloride   , Animal Digest   , Sodium Caseinate   , Defluorinated Phosphate   , L-Lysine   , Dried Whey   , Salt   , Choline Chloride   , Taurine   , Zinc Oxide   , Ferrous Sulfate   , Vitamin Supplements   , Vitamin A   ,...

As you can see, the food is predominately corn. Aren't you worried about the heavy grain base which is not very digestable for the Ferret?

Hello Joni, thanks for your question. Below is a copy of the product I have used for several years. I  have NEVER had a single problem with digestion or other health problems with any on my 17 ferrets I had on this food. I feel it is a personal choice for each ferret owner to feed what they feel is best. Did I try commercial ferret foods? YES.   I did actually change three times to the so called "better" ferret foods, only to be unpleasantly surprised. I had multiple problems with ferrets refusing to eat them, foul smelling stools, oily stools, hard coats, skinny ferrets, & diarrhea. I talked to my vet, who owned ferrets and found out many "ferret" foods are simply repackaged mink foods which are high in fish or fish meal. Also, a lot of them contain high Ash, and A high ash content in foods can lead to urinary tract problems. Finally my vet recommended this, and I liked everything about it. My ferrets were fat, happy healthy and gorgeous. I can't deny the results. So I go with my gut. Many people have agreed and disagreed with it. And that's fine.
