Question
Hello. We just recently bought a female ferret. Once we get all the expenses taken care of we were going to get her at least one friend. We were wondering if (they would all be fixed) it would be best to get the same or opposite gender, or if it even mattered. We have no information on this exact topic so any information would be very helpful and appreciated. Thanks so much, Danielle, Jimmy, and (Bella)

Answer
Hello, and thanks for your question! Well I am happy to hear you got your first ferret ok, and that you are planning on getting her a friend. Ferrets are extremely social creatures and it's rare for them not to get along with fellow fuzzies. Plus it's two times the fun for you!

As far as what gender you get, that is completely up to you. The only real difference is usually the size; males tend to be bigger and heavier. I personally think it's fun to get a guy and a girl, it's really funny to see a big and small ferret run around and play together. Each ferret has their own personality, and gender really doesn't matter at that point to ferrets. Some people will say that a male will be a better "lap ferret" (likes to cuddle and be affectionate) as he gets older rather than the females, but my little girl loves to lick me to death and sometimes will fall asleep in my arms while my boys are rowdy and like to play all day, so I haven't found this to be true.

So given all that, whether you get her a "boyfriend" or a gal pal is completely up to you, just follow your heart and it will be great!
Hope I've helped, good luck
