Question
Hi, My name is Lisa and I own 2 ferrets. Slinky and chi chi. they live in a cage in my room and i let them out from time to time. i let them out the other day but slinky wouldnt come out of his house. i figured he was in a deep sleep and i just let him be.  the next day i again opened the cage and chi chi came out but not slinky. i shook his box and he poked his head out but still wouldnt come out. i pulled him from the box and found he had messed himself. i set him on the ground and he kind of slumped over. i gave him a bath and held him for a while just to make sure he was really sick. he wouldnt walk. when i set him down he would drag his front end forward and then kind of take a small step with his back legs. he is very weak in his legs. i went online and did some quick research. they suggested he could have a glucose problem and some honey would perken him up but he would still need veterinary care. i gave him a ton of sugar water. that didnt help so i scheduled a visit to the vet right away. she told me he had perfect symptoms for adrenal disease and pancreatic something or another. one meant his adrenals and the other meant a glucose problem. she said its either A. cancer, B. cancer or C. cancer and cancer. she did a glucose test and it came back at 102. she said for the amount of sugar i gave him it should be higher. thats why she supposed he had a pancreatic problem.  she also did an ultrasound but said she couldnt see anything.  he wasnt peeing or pooping much at first but he also wasnt eating. he stopped eating crunchy ferret food so i now soak his food in water for about 20 min and then strain it to make a water that is dark brown with ferret food nutrients in it. i use a baby medicine dropper and feed him every 4 hours or so. he always eats vigorously. he doesnt drink water, but the food i give him is all water. he is back to pooping just like normal and he seems to be peeing ok. one thing i did notice the other day is that around his prostate it was this dark green color. im not sure what color his pee is but i dont think thats a good sign.  he was born last October so he is not even a year yet. he is not losing any fur either. all that combined with his healthy appetite makes me think its not the adrenals or glucose problems. he is fixed and was fixed quite early. the girl i bought him from a while ago only had him a month and he was tattoed when she got him from the pet store as a baby. the adrenal disease hits much older ferrets. he looks completely healthy other than the fact that he cant walk.. and no he has not been injured. But i dont know what to do anymore. i cant afford to have surgery done and i live way out in the country. the only vets around here are for cats, dogs, cattle and horses. im just trying to keep him well fed and hydrated. i know the day i found him he looked horrible and the next day he was suddenly super skinny. now my mom just freaked because he is suddenly so fat 2 days later. she thought he looked bloated.. he is still peeing and pooing fine so im going to keep feeding him. as long as he still wants food, he is gonna get food. and also chi chi is not affected by any of this at all. she is her normal self %100. thank you so much and please, reply asap. i dont know how much time he has left. he is next to me now ( i just finished feeding him) he is squirming like crazy. i know he wants to play but cant. he rolls over well : ) it looks like any minute he could just get up and be fine.. but i know its more serious. please i really need your help fast. ill do anything. i know this is stupid but my cell # is  . please i need to know asap. call anytime! thanks so much --slinky, chi chi, and worried owner

Answer
Hi I am sorry about your ferret!

Do you know if it his urine or poo that is green?

The symptoms you described doesn't sound like adrenal disease.

Have you tried baby food? When I have a sick ferret I make "duck soup" which is meat baby food (Gerber stage 1 or 2), mashed up ferret food, ferretone, a tiny bit of heavy cream and an egg yolk.

If you can tell me the city you are in I can suggest a vet nearby that works with ferrets.

Your ferret will more than likely need a ferret knowledgeable vet before deteriorating more.
