Question
My basset hound is due to deliver around October 25th. Yesterday she started squirting out dark bloody fluid and she looks alot skinnier. It isnt continuous but it comes and goes. I am wondering if she mascarried and if so does she need to go to the vet, or is this something that dogs can handle on their own.

Answer
Hi Jon. This is something that definitely needs vet attention. Any colored discharge before the birth of the first puppy needs to be checked out. She may have had a miscarriage, but I'd take her in just to be sure that there's nothing else going on, and that she doesn't get an infection. Good luck, and I hope everything is ok.
