Question
hello, i have a 2 1/2 year old male boxer who when he sees from the window a person or dogs walking past the house or within sight he goes crazy running from window to window.  How do i get him to stop doing this?
thank you

Answer
First, I'd place a barrier over the windows to minimize his view.  Next, train him to "leave it" and "come", so that you can interrupt his barking (a few barks as an alert is fine, but you want him to know that he's done his job and you'll handle it from there).  There are some free lessons at www.clickerlessons.com, and the best tape I know of to teach "come" is Leslie Nelson's "Really Reliable Recall".  If you learn about clicker training, you'll be better able to reward him once he's quiet, then add duration to the silence.  This takes time, but prevention (drapes or barriers) helps while you are starting the training.  If you still have trouble, get a behavior professional to help.  If you are in the US, try the IAABC web page.
