Question
I can not get my shitzu to quit bitting my family as well as chewing up the carpet and edges on the furniture and the cabinets. I tell him no and then hand him a chew toy I also try to put im into time out but he will not listen. During the day we are at work and school and he is kept in the bathroom but when we get home he is left out with us,please can you help me.

Hi Teresa,  With the biting, you need to pinch his upper lip against his teeth when he is nipping other people so that he associates the nipping with the pinching.  As far as the chewing, you need to go buy a repellant like Bitter Apple (which you can get at Petco, PetSmart etc) and spray it on the items he is chewing on.  Make sure that you have someone take him for a walk when you do this because if you don't, he'll see you putting it on and catch on to "the game".  When he goes back to chew on the item (the pyschology we are using is that the item he is chewing on will get him back for chewing on it not you) it will taste terrible and he won't want to chew.  You are doing the right thing by keeping him confined in the bathroom when you are not home.  Hope this helps,
