Question
my husband and I had 6 dogs we fostered one from tx 8 months ago,we live in Washington state, the fostered dog returned to

TX a month ago , she was tested positive for heart worm, adults only, what are the odds my other dogs will have them? we are having them tested and are wondering if the risk is high, our vet who has been practicing for over 20 years says he has never seen a case in our county and no confirmed cases in state as far as I can find...please help thank you colleen

Answer
As I understand it, heartworms are spread strictly by mosquitoes.  I have heard that heartworm is rare there.  Do all the mosquito eggs get washed out tot he pacific?  I doubt there is much danger.  I agree it was a good practice to have your other dogs checked.
