Question
my sharpea ( or how ever you spell it) is in heat her bottom looks like a prolapsed uterus. it looks like something is coming out of her behind is this normal

Answer
Hi Shelly,

Usually a prolapsed uterus occurs after a dog delivers a litter of puppies, but since I can't see your dog, and I'm not a doctor, I can't tell you what's going on.

If you believe your dog has a prolapsed uterus, it's an emergency situation. Immediate hospitalization is often necessary to prevent the death of tissue and to treat the problem. Dogs with a prolapsed uterus should never be allowed to breed, so your dog should be spayed.

Anytime you think something serious is going on with your dog's health, it's smarter to contact your veterinarian, than it is to write to an internet help-line and wait for an answer (which can take up to three days, at this site).

Best of luck,
Patti

PS. The correct spelling of your dog's breed is Shar-Pei.
