6 week old puppy

greetings becky,
today i picked up a 6 week old puppy from one of my pest control customers. the puppy is part chow and terrier. the mother was hit by a car and died last week. the owner was feeding the litter a combination of blended egg and milk. the puppy is having difficulty pooping. there is also a little blood coming out also. is she impacted? your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hi Steven,

She could be impacted, but that kind of diet would give her diarrhea, I would think, rather than stop her up. I would take a good puppy food, mix it with cottage cheese and some canned food. Mix it up real good and feed.  Later you can go to just dry. Be sure to feed a good food, some of the cheap stuff has no nutrional value.  The blood may mean there are hookworms.  You should have the puppy dewormed.  
At 6wks, this pup should be able to eat solid food, if it's a bit mushy.  
Be sure to have her vaccinated too.
