Question
my staffy has a swolen stomach and ribcage,she was in season 4 to 5 weeks ago and jumped over the garden fence.a friend said she was about to get mounted when we arrived so we were only 2 to 3 minutes behind her could she be pregnant or could it be a phantom pregnancy?
i have felt her stomach and it is hard but there are no shapes in it she had a litter 6 months ago and we were told we couldn't get her done until after this season.
the other dog also didnt have his penis out when he walked away from her(that we noticed,and you would)?

Answer
Hi Linzy;
You need to have her checked by her vet right away.
If she is pregnant, you need to know that to adjust her diet to protect her health, and she needs prenatal care to ensure a safe delivery.
I don't understand why you couldn't have her spayed until after this season/
Did a Veterinarian tell you this?
She should have been spayed before she had the first litter, by the time she was 6 or 7 months old.
That would have been best for her health, but she should certainly have been spayed right after she had that other litter and they were weaned.
If that is a phantom pregnancy, that could be worse than a real one.
I am not knowlegable about phantom pregnancies, so I won't speculate on that.
I don't give advice unless i am sure it is correct.
But you should get her to a Vet right away, unl;ess that was who told you she couldn't be spayed until after she had this season.
If it was, get another Vet1!
