Question
my vet said that Annie my 5 year old lab/pit mix has seasonal allergies and the sun bothers her because she is black.  I give her benadryl as recommended and put sunscreen on her however she is still biting at herself on the tail and creating open sores.  She is also shedding the hair to the point that she has bold spots on her sides.  her skin is extremely flaky and she is no longer a beautiful healthy looking girl.Is there anything I can put on her to help her the vet that I go to wasn't all that helpful they just suggested benadryl and sunscreen.  Is there a special solution to bathe her in?  Would cortisone or calamine lotion help?  I don't want Annie to be miserable anymore please help.

Answer
You could try Atopica (expensive but very helpful)

Everywhere I looked Benadryl was the answer.
I did find this link which has some good info on it.

Sorry I could'nt do more. I hope you work something out.  Why not try a different vet,  one that seems more interested in your dog.
Try an oatmeal bath too.
