Question
i have a 7 yo vizsla that has chronic ear infections have had vets flush ears had other vets suggest rinses that didnt work done ointments is there a powder that will dry the inner ear and deal with this condition. i have a plastic cone that as soon as we take off after days of treatment he scrathes his ear and starts the cycle over again chronic  this is my 4th vizsla and all had this on and off but milo my present dog is  severe

Answer
I do  not know of any powder that would be effective. If you have exhausted ointments and ear flushes you should consider prescription drugs to fight the infection. If these do not work and the problems is chronic, it sounds like it is, I would consider talking to your vet about surgery for the problem. The surgery does have many risks and most veterinarians will not preform it. You would likely have to go to a University or speciality practice. There are major sacrifices made with the surgery like hearing loss, etc...., but you simply can't let your pet suffer with an ear infection the rest of his life. My first recommendation would be to seek out a veterinary specialty practice that specializes in ear problems. Sorry I have no better suggestions, but it seems your veterinarian is using the best course of treatment at this time. Ask your veterinarian to pinpoint the cause of the infection and then go from there.
