There flat faces cause plenty of breathing problems they can be born with stenic nares meaning the nostrols are too tight to allow the dog to breath properly and sugery to widen the nares is offen the only option....you will know if a puppys nares are very bad just by looking at them if there is hardly an opening and or the dog gulps air offen it needs the surgery done asap. Also these dogs are prone to enlongated soft palate problems where the soft palate is too long it hangs into the dogs treacia and causes the dog to vomit up bile and foam quite offen signs of enlongated soft palate are gagging while eatting or vomiting right after eatting. Because of breathing problems these dogs are NOT ment to be jogging or running companions they would die of exust very quickly espesialy if over exercised in hot or humid weather. For this reason pugs should not be allow to stay outdoors long if the weather is hot or humid as its hard for the dog to breath in such weather. Overall they are wonderful little dogs with awsome temperments are natural jokers and enjoy spending as much time as possible with thre owners(for a pug it should be more then the avarage dog as they will pine for you if your at work all day in which case you'd need two) .
