agressive golden retreiver to dogs

Question
Dear Kristen,

I'm a dog owner from china. I have a male golden retreiver. Not like most friendly ones, my dog is very agressive to other male dogs since he was 11 months old, but not to female and puppies. This is a really big problem to me. Although he had have been neutered for nearly 3 months, the problem still exists. I'm very upset. I couldn't take him out to picnic or any activities with other dogs, couldn't let him play with other dogs freely, because I'm not sure when he will attack other dogs. I'm really desperate, don't know how to do. I hope he could become a happy and friendly dog, a good dog.
How should I do? Dear Kristen, could you give me any advice about the problem? How could correct his aggressive problem?
Thanks a lot. And look forward your answers.

Answer
Judy, you did not say how old the dog is now, but it can take up to 6 months for all the testosterone to exit a dog's system after he is neutered. Additionally, just having him neutered is not a solution to the problem; you must train him not to be aggressive, as well. I would recommend trying to find a trainer in your area that has experience with aggression in dogs, and that can work with you one-on-one to fix the problem. I cannot give you accurate advice over the internet, and without seeing his behavior in person. There are too many things that could be going on, and I don't want to recommend that you do something, and have you get bitten.
