Dog may have worms??

Question
Hello,
I'm hoping you can help me figure something out with my dog.  We have a 1 year old sharpei/australian shepherd mix.  He is very active and usually very healthy.  Lately, he has been scratching a lot (fleas?), vomiting every morning (it is yellow, like stomach acid, but only once a day), and eating a TON of food.  This all seems strange and not his normal behavior, so I suspect worms, but I am not sure.  His stool does not appear to have anything in it, that I can see.  I am just wondering if I should take him to the vet or is this something I can take care of at home.  Your thoughts are appreciated.
Thank you.`

Answer
Melanie,

If it was just fleas and eating a lot, I'd say wait it out, but the vomiting is worrisome because your pet can become dehydrated very quickly.  Worms don't usually cause vomiting, so I'm concerned there is something else going on.  See a vet ASAP and bring a sample of the dog's feces with you so they can check for parasites.  Just pick up a fresh bowel movement with a bag over your hand, tie it closed and bring it in.

Good luck,

Laura
