fogged eye

Question
you had medical on your resume but this maybe too tough to answer so if you cannot I will understand. Two wks ago our dog got something in his eye. We flushed it out & it seemed to be better until the next day. He kept closing it all the time. We took him to vet. They gave him antibiotic & steroids for home use. We took him back two more times. Now his eye has no color & looks like a foggy lens. Has he lost his eyesight in that eye.                            Thankyou Mike

Answer
Hi Mike, I'm sorry to hear about your dog's accident.  It does sound like he has lost his eye site.  If he will let you, try and cover the good eye with your one hand, and then approach the bad eye with a finger and see if he blinks.  Make sure you don't touch an eye lash as that will automatically make him blink.  Come from different directions to see where you get a response from.  Also, even if a lot of the site is gone, he could possibly still see shadows so when you do the finger test (or you can use your hand) see if he responds to a shadow.  Don't try to hold him down when you cover the good eye because if he can't see out of the bad eye, he might panic if you cover the good eye, and pinning him down would make it worse.  Hope this helps, and good luck.
