grooming my standard poodle

Question
I have a 5 month old apricot standard poodle who hates to be groomed and clipped especially his face and ears.  He squeals and fights and scratches.  He has had two groomings to date and has been the same each time.  We have tried to gently touch his ears and face to get him used to being touched but nothing works.  Any suggestions would be most welcome as groomers are refusing to do him twice?

Answer
"Touch" training is a good idea in this case. I would say that you have to also get him used to the sound of clippers. Training can't only take place at home as it will only work at home. I have never heard groomers turning away a dog because he squeals. Sure he may be scared but there is only one way to get him to behave and that is positive reinforcement. Let him know that every time the clippers come out or a groomer is in the vicinity he gets good treats! Those treats only come out when the groomer or clipper does. IT will take some time to get him used to it but he is young and you must be patient. Never make your pup withstand more than he can. Training will take some time so be kind and patient.
