Yorkie-poo grooming

Question
I live in Pensacola, FL. I have a 3 month old yorkie-poo. Her mother is a blackish silver yorkie poo and her father is a full blood yorkie. This is my first hairy dog and I was wondering what to expect grooming wise. She is black and very fluffy.  When should we take her to get her first hair cut? Also how should we get it cut and what should we tell the groomer? I want her to look cute, right now she just looks like a big ball. Also, do you know if we should expect a big change in her coat as she gets older?

Answer
It is hard to know what to expect as she is a mixed breed. They all are different.  What you tell the groomer is totally up to you...do you want her long, or short?  How much brushing do you want to do? The longer the coat, the more eaily she will matt. Once she is matted, she will have to go short...very short. Many people like to keep the dog short so there is little to no maintenance.  You will have to experiment with her and see what works for the both of you. He coat change is hard to determine as she is mixed..but usually the adult coat is not so soft and fluffy. Don't wait too long to get her first cut, as she should get used to it from the beginning. I have pups that come at 12 weeks old all the time. Even if its just for a trim and a bath. Good Luck
