QuestionI think my 10-year old siberian husky was bitten by something earlier today and her face is swollen on one side. I have her an ascriptin earlier which didn't reduce the swelling, and gave her a 2nd ascriptin about 6 hours later. Her apatite is fine, and was wondering if there are any home remedies I could give her to reduce the swelling?
AnswerTry some Benadryl, up to 2mg per pound of body weight every 8 hours. I think the standard capsules are 25 mg. If so, try 1-2. Don't give her anything that has the newer pain killers, acetophen or Ibruprofen in it.
Oh no more aspirin than 5 mg per pound of body weight every 8 hours.
If the swelling is still bad in the morning, better call the vet.
I rarely suggest medicating a dog without talking to a vet first, but think it is OK in this case.
An ice pack can't hurt either.
