Question
Hi there

I just have this question I was wondering if you can answer . I have never bred a dog before nor did I plan on it . but the lil bugger turned into Hudini on me and got outta the yard

heres my question

did my male get my neighbours female pregnant ?
My neighbours Chi is in full heat i guess and somehow my male Chi managed to get out of my yard and I caught him mating her , so heres the thing I don't know if he actually impregnanted her because they did lock but maybe for 10-15 secs and she pulled off of him ( I am pretty sure it was a lock because I came online looking for an answer to this question and I read about a lock I seen him bring his back leg over her rear and I was yelling at him to stop and she pulled off and made him yelp and his manhood was fully erected and for about 3 more mins so he just stood there until it went and and then I scooped him up and brought him back in the house )... So do you think I am in the clear .. or did he actually finish the deed . I did not plan to mate him

All the information I tried to pull up online says that all dogs must lock and for atleast 2 - 15 mins So I am hoping I am in the clear !

Answer
Hi Bella,

There's no way to guess at whether or not your dog really did impregnate your neighbor's dog. It's certainly possible.
There isn't a pregnancy test for dogs, the earliest possible time of diagnosis may be 26-35 days after breeding, when the doctor may be able to detect pregnancy (85% accuracy) by feeling the abdomen. Diagnosis by x-rays is usually possible after 45 days (95% accuracy for determining the number of puppies).

You can take this as the wake-up call that it is, and get your dog neutered. Since you're not planning on breeding him, there's no reason for him to remain intact.

Best of luck,
Patti
