Answer
Hi, it sounds like your Great Dane is suffering from separation anxiety which is becoming more and more common in dogs now a days.  The common symptoms are destruction of things when you leave them alone, even for short periods of time.  Unfortunately, the worst thing you can do is muzzle him as this will aggravate him more and once he gets the muzzle off, he will become even more destructive.  The best thing to do for dogs who suffer separation anxiety is to crate train them and basically confine them everytime you have to leave, even for short periods of time.  When you crate train a dog, he soon learns that the crate is his den, and he becomes more comfortable & secure when he is left alone in the crate.  It is not inhumane as you are making him feel more secure than when he is left alone and feels like he is abandoned.  Hope this helps,
