Vitamins/Supplements for Rescue Minpin Puppies

Question
My minpin rescue group took in 4 puppies from a South Dakota breeder who couldn't sell them due to thin patchy hair coats, more than likely caused by the bad nutrition they received at the breeder's and not the greatest, cleanest living conditions they had to live in.  I have them on Solid Gold puppy food and add Solid Gold Seameal and 'The Missing Link with Glucosamine' to their food.  Are there any other vitamins or supplements I can add or remedies I can do to help them start growing hair in the patchy, thin spots?  It's mainly on the tops of their heads near their ears.

Answer
Don't assume this is nutritional; the puppies might have mange. I would have that checked first. And clean or dirty living conditions has nothing to do with how hair grows or doesn't grow.

Solid Gold is a good food, and a good food doesn't need supplementation. Adding supplements will just unbalance an otherwise balanced diet, and can actually cause bladder stones in some dogs.

And there is always the chance that this could be genetic. The last thing that bad breeders ever think of is breeding for good qualities in their dogs.

If these poor coats are caused from anything other than genetics, it will take several weeks before they improve. New hair takes about four weeks before it breaks through the skin.
