Chesapeake Bay Retriever Odor

Question
According to different books and articles I've read, Chesapeake Bay Retriever's have an oily coat that shouldn't be washed/bathed often. My 6-month old, female Cheesie has a strong odor that doesn't seem to go away. I've tried rinsing her with water and spraying her with different fragrance sprays. How often can I really bathe my Cheesie and what can I do to control her odor?

Answer
Unfortunately, you picked the wrong breed if doggy odor bothers you. That unique oily coat comes along with its own lovely aroma.

I wouldn't bathe her more often than every two weeks as you don't want to dry out her skin too much. Be sure you rinse the shampoo out thoroughly so that you don't cause itching from any residue.
