my Dachsund

my dog rusty is a dachshund (im not sure of the correct spelling!) he is 6 years old and incredibly possessive. he does not like men at all, he barks at my boyfriend my dad and any other male that comes our way..he's not just being mean i think he is scared. i got him when he was 11 months old, do you think he was abused and still remembers it. Also i just got a puppy Boston terrier. Rusty does not want anything to do with it, he barks at it and runs and hides, he can't be just jealous cause i hardly handle the dog my grandmother does and rusty and i sleep alone. is there anything i can do to get these dogs to get along and ease rusty's anxiety? he always has to be near me and seems like he is sad unless im holding him.

Many dogs after they mature at 3 years old want nothing to do with puppies, their biting games, and their sharp little teeth.  Allow Rusty to avoid the puppy and give it warning growls and snaps.  Rusty may or may not eventually decide to accept it.  Until He does, give the puppy a sharp ''Ut, ut, ut!'' and distract it with a toy every time it starts for Rusty.  

You could try having your father and boyfriend give Rusty treats when they come.  That could go a long ways in improving how he views them.
