Question
Hello I am very concerned about my yorkie and I hope you can give me some advised. I a have a 1 year old male yorkie weighting in at 5 1/4 lb and a female yorkie who is 4 1/2 lb. She recently went in head a week ago. I have been keeping them about since the female went into heat. But when I got home today so how the male jump over to the female kennel, I am not sure how long they spend together and if the lock. If my female is pregnant should I be concern because the male is a little bigger. And advise would be greatly appreciated..

Answer
There is always a concern when the male is larger than the bitch, but a lot of it depends on the structure of the bitch. If she is too narrow in the rear then, yes, there could be a problem whelping. C-sections in most instances now are running well over $1000, depending on where one lives.

Dogs and bitches will do anything they can to get to the other when the bitch is in season. The only sure way to prevent them from breeding is to have the bitch spayed, which will cut down her chance of having breast cancer something like 85% and will prevent her from developing a pyometra (uterine infection). Put one of them (preferably the male) in a crate when you are gone, and that will eliminate the jumping/climbing over the fencing.
