10 week Maltese loves crate but...

Question
Hi Alan,
I got a 10 week old Maltese 4 days ago.  She is doing great with crate training, really loves the crate. She goes to a wee-wee-pad and outside (sometimes I walk her when is not too cold), no accidents, she calls at night to go potty.  However, 2 days ago she started whining at night no longer for going potty but to play. The crate is in a separate room and the wee-wee-pad is in that room.  Should I leave the crate open at night until she stops "going" at night? Last meal is @ 6pm last walk ~10:30-11pm, no water or food left out.  Bringing the crate to my bedroom is not an option... Thanks!

Answer
Dear Carol,
Thanks for the message. If you are sure your pup wants to play and does not need to go potty, just ignore the whining. Say nothing. I wouldn't leave the crate door open because she might get up and get into trouble when you are asleep.

Moving the crate would have been one of my suggestions, but since that is not an option, she will have to learn to sleep away from her humans. Good luck and thanks for writing!
