Shiba Inu Right for Us?

19 10:27:32

Question
My husband and I are considering getting our first dog. We like the look of the Shiba Inu and also like what I've read about personality of the dog, its independence etc. Just wondering if there's anything we should know about this breed or if it's a good breed for a first dog? My husband grew up with dogs (labs and golden retrievers), I did not. We currently live in a rural setting with about 1 acre and have a mid-size home, no children.

Answer
I think a Shiba Inu will fit in rather nicely,I have had a Shiba Inu for 9 years and she is an excellent dog-they are however more cat-like then other breeds, they also walk in a dignified manner, like a horse, and turn heads

They are also a very clean dog,and like cats, they groom themselves-the only thing is also like a cat they do things in there own terms and can be stuborn, but they tend to housebreak themselves as they are very clean, they can never be trusted off lead,do to them being stuborn and may not want to come back

Shibas tend to be aggressive towords small animals(birds, rabbits ect) and smaller dogs, another reason to keep them on lead

But i think they will be a good dog for you
