How fragile a dogs bones are is going to vary with the size of the dog and its build.  Some of your Labs and Pitt Bulls are good sized and very stocky.  yes, they still break bones, but they will take a lot more than a terrier.  A healthy dog that was fed a good diet growing up may be less fragile than a sickly dog or a poorly fed one.
