MGE puppy becoming unbearable

Question
At 2 months old my pure bred chocolate lab was diagnosed with MGE..well, actually, the veterinarians (all 6 called in to treat her) are just treating her for MGE. No clear consensus as to what her problem is has been made. She would have alarmingly long (13 hours, tops) seizures several days a week and at such a young age they didn't really see it being epilepsy. After a series of treatments she responded to one and her seizures have now stopped. But now I'm thinking she has severe brain damage. She doesn't respond to a lot, almost refuses to be trained (house breaking, jumping, sitting, staying, climbing, etc) and it has just become almost unbearable to keep her. She is only calm and quiet about 15 minutes of the day and the rest of the time she is out of control. Could she really be brain damaged as a cause of her seizures early in life, and could that be an explanation as to her current behavior?

Answer
I'm sorry, but I don't know what you mean by MGE.

Yes, prolonged seizures can cause brain damage due to low oxygen levels, but I can't say that this is a cause of your dog's hyperactivity. Some dogs are just that way naturally, and a lab is not a breed I would think of as being a couch-potato type... many of them tend to have a lot of drive.

You need to get your dog into obedience classes for several months and start working with her daily. You should also practice "Nothing in Life is Free" with her. http://k9deb.com/nilif.htm

If you decide that you cannot keep the dog, return her to her breeder and get a replacement or your money back.
