what do we do if the mother can not chew the embilical cord off, would it be ok if we used sterile scissors to help cut then for her?

Answer
Yes that should be fine, leave a few centimetres of cord when you do though to guard against umbilical hernia and make sure to put a sterilizing solution on the umbilical cord, this should be a solution purchased from the vet in order to make sure it is suitable.
