Question
My 3 month old Akbash puppy hit her head on the side of a table, and was bleeding from her nose.
The vet said she had broken 2 bones in her skull and they have been replaced with Iron Rods.
What will happen as she grows?
Will be make a full recovery?

Answer

Hi Gillian,

The potential long-term effects of skull fractures range from none to lifelong neurological dysfunction and death. There's no way for me to guess about how your particular dog will heal. That is a question you should ask your vet.

Your dog should be seen by your veterinarian in a few weeks to evaluate how the bone is healing. Be sure to follow the advice your vet gave, as far as your dog's activity level, giving medication, or a special diet. Strictly following your vet's advice, and keeping the follow-up vet appointments will give your dog the best chance for a complete recovery.

Best of luck,

Patti
