Question
We have 2 long haired Chihuahua's - Bentley, who's 2 yrs. old and about 4.5 pounds, and Bowser, who's almost a year, about 11 lbs, and I'm pretty sure he's a mixed breed (although the breeder swears he isn't).  I'm actually very allergic to them, and am on a strict regimen of allergy medicines and injections, and I'm still miserable (it's ok though - I love em enough so it's worth it).  My coworker suggested trying the Furminator to help reduce shedding, so that maybe it would relieve some of my symptoms.  Bowser has a much thicker coat than most LH Chihuahuas, and I really noticed a difference in using the Furminator.  I've never used a tool like this, and I was wondering if it's possible to overdo it.  Their website leads me to believe that if there's hair in the brush, it's hair that doesn't need to be there, but I don't want a bald dog, either.  I guess I'd like maximum hair removal, but without harming my dogs.  Thanks a bunch!!

Answer
The Furminator is a wonderful tool! Yes, it is actually possible to overdo it though. One of my co-workers told me of an instance where she accidentally left an almost bald spot on her cat with one. I think what she did was concentrate too much on one particular area that was matted and that is how it happened. It's a good thing you are already concerned about that happening as it makes you more cautious about using it. I would say that as long as you are aware that it is possible to overdo it, you will be able to judge when you should stop on each dog.  If you have anymore concerns, just let me know.

Hope this helps!
