Question
Hello Cindi,  I have a Siberian Husky female. 3 years old, 62 pounds. Very healthy dog not spayed. My question regards the things she will & wants to eat. The list includes....corn (any way including on the cob which is real funny looking), broccoli, peaches, carrots, oranges, apricots  ( her favorite and mine too), watermelon, green beans, asparagus, bananas, pan cakes but only with butter, pasta, apples, meat ( of course) other things. Oddly she will not eat potato chips ( thats not good for her anyway)  nor chocolate, bacon, pineapples. She has always had this taste. Took her to the vet and he found no worms nor other problems.
She seeems not to like salty things. That is weird. I've had many dogs and all go crazy over salt but not her. She'll eat most vegetables and fruits plus most meat except bacon. Her favorite is Apricots fresh or canned. My favorite food too. She will NOT eat dry dog food and I've tried 7 brands. She eats canned food fine. Pedigre & Alpo. She doesn't over eat but just wants everything I have.
Since she seems healthy is there a problem letting her eat produce? Why does she have this odd taste? 20 years ago I had 8 huskies and ran a sled. None of those ever had this taste. Oh,  and she hates fish.

Answer
Pedigree and alpo are the only two things you mentioned that she eats that are bad for her. Most canned dog food is made from by products which are from 4D meats. Dead, diseased, dying and downed animals, consisting of sick, euthanised and even roadkilled animals. No more pedigree and alpo please. Everything else she eats iw sonerful for her. I have to tell you that all of my dogs eat all of the above mentioned foods, they especially love crunchy baby carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, bananas etc. Only one of mine eats oranges, but the rest, oh YES indeed they love it. Why bother with the dog food? As long as you are feeding her enough meat along with everything else she eats, and adding some bone meal, or pressure cooking some chicken bones for her,. she's doing GREAT.  I'd love to see her eating some sardines or salmon,. but if she refuses, that's ok too, just add some omega supplements, and some flax seed oil, there you have the perfect diet for a dog. Remember, no onions and no grapes added to your 'no' list. What a good girl, and how lucky you are!
