Owning 2 dogs

Question
We have owned pet dogs for over 30 years, but never two at the same time.  We like female Wire Haired Fox Terriers (WHFT), but wondered what the pros and cons were of owning either 2 females, 2 males or 1 female and 1 male WHFT (assume all would be spayed or neutered and all would probably come from the same litter).  What are the pros and cons of owning a female WHFT and a cat?

We just lost our beloved pet to old age and were thinking about these options.  Any experience, advise or recommendations, or where to go to find out?

Thanks,
Jim Hubble

Answer
Bringing another pet into a family is always a good idea. It creates extra stimulation the pets already living there, and provides special stimulation that humans cannot. It may take a week or so for everyone to get acclamated. Boy or girl, your current pet may be territorial, but aside from being nippy to the new pet, the chances of something bad happening are slim. If you bring in a puppy, your chances are even greater of exceptance as opposed to an older dog. The sex really doesnt matter either. However, if you have a dog that has spraying problems, it will just become a spray war if you bring in another male that isnt neutered. It is simply based on your preferance of sex. Having two dogs actually creates less work for you as they will always have eachother to keep one another company. They can play together when you and your family cant, and provide an extra hour or two of seperation when your out for a long time. I always recommend having at least two dogs... it just makes for much happier dogs. Good Luck
