how much to feed puppy?

Question
QUESTION: Am I supposed to feed puppies MORE than older dogs? Right now I feed my 4 month old puppy about 1/3-1/4 cups of kibble three times a day.. when should i change this to two times... I'm not sure if I should follow the instructions on the kibble because its less than what i'm giving him and he seems really hungry during mealtimes.

ANSWER: Jeff =

That sounds like a lot of kibble, but it may well depend on the specific food you feed.  The premium foods (not available in grocery stores) have less grains and fillers  so you feed less.

I would not switch to 2 meals a day until at least 6 to 8 months, but I'm not a pro at raising puppies.

A friend showed me this today, and your question reminded me of this. I think it's a great suggestion for raising puppies/

QUESTION: I'm feeding him royal canin at the moment...

don't know if that's a premium food or not, and debating whether or not to change the food.

Answer
Royal Canin is just fine.

It's hard to tell people that truly good quality dog food is just not available at grocery stores.  Grocery store brands are all the advertisements they see, and they don't know how limited the education vets get about nutrition is.... so the company who sends vets lots of freebies and markets to them is the brand they automatically recommend because it's simple.

So, when it comes to talking about kibble, I try to be as diplomatic as possible.
