Cairn defecating loose stools

Question
I adopted a 6 year old Cairn about 6 months ago.  She has done very well with exception of excessive drooling when I take her in the car.  Recently she has had loose stools.  I asked my kids if they gave her human food, they said they had, I told them to stop.  I have given her rice the last 3 days.  She was given a bone last night (beef), this morning she had two piles of stool in their safe room where they sleep together.  The other dog is fine, it is just her with loose stools?  Should I continue rice and use pepto as you told someone else?  Or cottage cheese?

Answer
Hi Laurie,
I love it when people go back and read past answers so they can ask intelligent follow-ups! Thanks!
I would feed the dog NOTHING for 24 hours. Let her fast - forget the rice the cottage cheese and never feed cooked bones- only raw. Cooked splinter and the rendered fat causes diarrhea too. Jeffers Pets has a great anti- diarrhea you should keep in the medicine chest for dogs. by NaturVet. It is still made with Kaolin which is the best blocker ever and what they took out of Kaopectate that used to make it work so well.... a dose of that will clear her up too- so just use the pepto for now. Then go back to the dog food you were using in small doses. Keep the kids in check- but it will of course continue on occasion so get the stuff from jefferspet.com - it's a floor saver!
good luck and thanks for rescuing a wonderful dog !
