Question
Lady, 7yrs, boston terrior, has not been in cage since 9 months, 19 pounds and has to go in cargo area as i am relocating to a different state, have to buy cage and worried she will not tavel well or get in cage, any ideas?

Answer
Shirley -

I would get the crate early and start having her stay in it for lengthening periods of time as a good practice.

I would double check that she cannot fly in the cabin with you as an alterative to going cargo.

and lastly, I would use something like Rescue Remedy just to help her stay calm during the trip. You may also want to put a dirty tshirt of yours in there as comfort.

As an aside, I want to reassure you that the vast majority of dogs do very well. I have received a number of foster dogs who have come by air and they have been treated very well by the airline staff.

Best wishes and safe traveling.
