Companion for my Rat Terrier

Question
I have a 10 month old female Rat Terrier and would like to get another dog as a companion for her.  I think this would help her not be so lonely during the day.  We work so she is in her room (a large laundry room) most of the day.

Can you recommend a breed?  I would like to get another rat terrier but have heard you should either have a different breed or different sex.  I don't like males; would rather have a female.  Do you think two female rat terriers would get along?  Also how do you introduce a new puppy?  Should I bring her with me to pick out a new puppy?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I agreed that you should get either another breed or a male rat terrier.  Opposite genders tend to get along better since they are not competing with each other.

I would not take her with you, and I BEG you not to buy at a pet store (I won't go into the reasons unless you wanna know).

When introducing a new dog (I have fosters coming and going all the time), I usually baby gate them apart for a day or so. I like it because they can smell each other and do all the goofy butt sniffing stuff.

Although with 2 relatively young dogs, you can do an introduction outside.  If you have 2 people do it on leash so you can move them apart if need be. If you are alone, tie up your current dog and approach with the new one on a leash.

It's hard to recommend a breed because I don;t know your experience and preferences, but I think this is a pretty good tool to help pick a breed.
