Question
Patt,
Please help.  My 7 yr old jack russell terrier has always had to have her anal sacs expelled.  For the past 3 weeks she is accessively scooting on her butt and we have tried several times to squuze her glands and only a little comes out..  I cant bear to watch her uncomfortable like this.  What can i do.  My vet wants to charge 100.00 to go in through her butt internally to do this.  If i have to I will.  it is just expensive right now.
thank you.

Answer
Hi Cara
Put the dog in the bathtub, run warm water over the anal, lift the tail and try after warming it up to squeeze at 8 and 4 with pointer and thumb fingers.  Kinda squeeze up as u do this and see if u can get anymore out.
It might take surgery to correct the problem if is is constant, it can become impacted and badly infected.
I am taking a big Shepherd male to vet to have his checked, he never had any problem and refuses to let me try anything it frightens him so I may have to put him to sleep to be checked.  He eats the proper diet and I have never had anal problems with any of my dogs ever!
I do not know anything else to tell you for now.  Heat often helps.

Kind Regards
Patt
