Silky Terrier

Question
Someone is selling a 5 lb., female Silky Terrier and says she is 8 months old.  Her coloring is a very light tan with some silver going down his side with black or blue on the tips. Other than that very light blue/silver, she is mostly light tan.  All the paperwork says that she is a purebred Silky Terrier, but because of her weight and coloring, I am afraid she might be mixed with another breed.  What do you think?  Can a 8 month old female Silky be only around 5 lbs and have the coloring I described?

Answer
Lillian

I am no expert on Silkies.  I would make a couple of notes though - It's entirely possible she is the runt of the litter, and it's also possible she is otherwise stunted for any number of reasons.  Additionally, being sold at 8 months usually indicates that there is some reason to sell her - a breeder would have wanted to place her long before this.

I encourage you to make sure she has a thorough vet check, and in fact I would have my own vet check her.

On the other hand, does it really matter if she's pure ?  At that size and coloring, she is not appropriate for showing or breeding, and hence the pureness of her breeding is largely irrelevant, isn't it ?

Good Luck and let me know how you make out.
