My rat terrier

Question
Hi my name is Sarah
My family just recently bought a rat terrier from a breeder.
She is a mix between a mini rat terrier and a toy rat terrier. ( her mother is the mini. 11 lbs. and her father is the toy 5lbs)Im not really sure what to expect on her adult size or if she is the right weight.I asked the breeder and she didn't really give me a solid estimate on weight just a guess.  I took her to the vet for her 10 week shots and she was 3 lbs and I weighed her about a week later and she had already gained about a pound and a half.  So what I really want to know is what do mini and toy rat terrier mixes usually weigh?
Thanks for any help you can give.
Sarah

Answer
Hi Sarah,
I really can't say since I have not seen the dogs.
You first said you bought a rat terrier, then you said it was a mixed breed- toy/mini -neither is a considered a real terrier but are toy breeds. Does it really make a difference at this point how big it gets? You love it don't you? Are you going to return it if it is larger than you wanted? I think not- at least I hope not.
These breeds are very hard to judge when you start mixing them up. That is why pure bred dogs are bred so there is more likelihood of turning out the same way consistently.
Enjoy your dog and forget all else now that you have it.
Next time make sure your breeder is breeding for the betterment of the breed - not just to sell designer puppies. Look at the parents first before you take one home.
Personally i don't believe in buying dogs under 18 weeks- you are likely to be disappointed if it is not what you were hoping for and 18 weeks gives you a much better idea of that.
good luck
