Question
I have a 14 mo. male neutered Tzu.  He has a beautiful coat and his stools are normal.  Feed brown rice, chicken,
turkey, pork and quality type biscuits.  Every few days or so he throws up a yellow type froth or bile type liquid. Sometimes he will eat right after this and then again maybe not till later.  Had him tested for any possible or kidney problems and thank goodness was negative.  What could be causing him to do this.  I have cut out anything with wheat and also dairy but I really don't think these were a problem as he still does it.  Have you had any experience with something like this or have any of your Shihtzus ever done this.  Thanking you in advance for any help  you may be able to offer.

Answer
Sorry, I didn't put up my away tag.  Anyway, Yes I have had this happen on occasions.  Examples:  drinking water too fast, or once I had a girl that would eat in the morning and then at 3 or 4pm and then not again until the next morning and never failed she would vomit the bile and it was because she would gulp water or air or get excited first thing in the morning after not eating for 16+ hours.  Needless to say I learned to not leave her food out all day for free feedings, I feed her in the morning, she has a snack of a few cookies or other mid day 2pm treat, then at 6pm she eats, I have not had that problem since and I take up all food at that time and all water at 8pm last potty call is by 9pm.  By the way the chicken and turkey sound fine but I would stop the Pork, it has been linked to pancreatitis(our breed does not deal well with a lot of fat)Also, if not prepared correctly there is a slight risk of your dog being infected with trichinosis by eating pork. Trichinosis, also known as trichinellosis, is a worldwide, food borne disease caused by an intestinal roundworm.  Hope some of this was helpful and will lead to a resolution to your situation.
